Subaru believes we all should have a chance to lead a healthy life. That's why Subaru and its retailers, like us, partner with The Leukemia & Lymphoma SocietyĀ® (LLS) and their local hospital or cancer treatment center to give warm blankets and encouraging messages of hope, written by retailers and Subaru customers in their stores, to support patients facing cancer. Through our partnership with LLS, we've supported nearly 350,000 cancer patients nationwide. We're proud to be LLS's largest automotive donor.
Subaru and its retailers, like us, are continuing our support of education and high-needs schools in our communities through Subaru Loves Learning(R) by providing teachers across the country with funding to purchase the school supplies and resources they know are needed to help students thrive in the classroom. On June 13th, The LLS North Carolina-Virginia Region and Capital Subaru of Greensboro got together to deliver blankets to the many patients at Cone Health Cancer Center at Wesley Long. While we did not get to personally hand-deliver any blankets to patients currently at the cancer center, we got to hear from the nurses and staff about how much they appreciate and look forward to the Subaru blanket delivery every year. They shared those patients will seek them out when they start seeing blankets around the hospital and are always so excited to receive them. Such a small thing goes a long way to these patients. It was so encouraging and heart-warming to hear how much this program means to them and the impact it has on cancer patients. This partnership is so beneficial to all the parties involved!

Capital Subaru and Guilford County Animal Services are always busy trying to provide for the community, as well as provide the best service for what they do (cars and animals!). Thankfully, we were able to partner up during May to do a toy and food drive for their resident dogs and cats. They have over 300 animals that need a forever home, and that's not a small number of mouths to feed or minds to keep enriched! They are always asking for donations, whether time or money, and we look forward to working with them again for hopefully an adoption event!

Every year, Subaru is fortunate enough to partner with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) and provide blankets to the local hospital for patients and their families. The Cone Health Cancer Center provides exceptional care in Greensboro at every stage of cancer for patients and their caregivers. While these caregivers and family wait in the hospital lounges, the blankets are able to provide them comfort, and so are the patient care kits. Subaru also donates 5 pediatric cancer households with $500 in household assistance, hopefully making the cost of treatment less burdensome on the family, giving them time to focus on their family members. #SubaruLovesToHelp

Triad Golden Retriever Rescue, our "Subaru Loves Animals" partner, was able to come out to the Capital Subaru dealership for our grand opening! While obviously we have been in business for quite a while, a shift in management and the flourishing of Love Promise events has begun a new wave of Capital Subaru partnership! We were able to have 7 golden retrievers come out for the day for an adoption event, and while they were here, they were able to enjoy ice cream and pets from multiple children who showed up with their parents. The rescue even had a few people there to see specific dogs, as well as applications for them! We always love when they visit, and look forward to future events with the dogs and their amazing fosters.

Subaru loves to help any time of the year, but we especially love to put our Subarus to work. At least once a month, Capital Subaru of Greensboro now delivers food for Meals on Wheels driving anywhere from 2 to 20 miles away. Our most recent trip really put our speed to the test because we had to hit 12 routes with 2 cars: but we did it and were able to run food up to houses and have good conversation with the recipients. Meals on Wheels believes in no senior left behind, and we're happy to share the goal of feeding everyone in need.

To close up Women's History Month, Capital Subaru of Greensboro participated in and supported a panel at Guilford Technical Community College. Subaru has made it known that they support women through their DEI projects and initiatives, and this panel shed some light on the fact that Women in Unconventional Careers, while few and far between, make an impact everywhere they go. Our own general manager was able to sit on the panel and answer questions alongside other strong women. There were firefighters, an HVAC student, a sheriff, and a couple of other general managers that were able to provide some insight on being a woman in "unconventional" jobs. Capital Subaru will continue to dote on successful women because they make Subaru a great place to work.

On a lovely Saturday morning, Capital Subaru of Greensboro was able to host One Blood on campus for another blood drive. In a perfect way to kick off Spring, we got enough donations to save up to 18 lives that day. Around 1 in 7 people entering the hospital need a blood donation, so hopefully we were all able to make a difference, and people were able to start their St. Patrick's day off the Subaru way: helping.

NC has not been immune to the cold weather this winter, even if we aren't seeing much snow. Capital Subaru of Greensboro and Backpack Beginnings partnered up to connect with families with children that needed coats for the chilly season. Subaru was able to donate 180 coats, 30 of which went to specific families and the rest were able to be given to families in need over the next 4 days. Backpack Beginnings set up 4 stations within their location: sign in, backpacks full of goodies, the coats, and a toy station! Volunteers from both Capital Subaru and Backpack Beginnings were able to come together and funnel families through, as well as meet some awesome kids. Backpack Beginnings is known for their family market full of groceries, comfort programs for kids going though traumatic situations, baby and hygiene supplies, and so much more. Capital Subaru was happy to partner with them this year for the Love to Help event, and we hope to be able to help again soon.

Right before New Year's, Capital Subaru partnered with One Blood to be able to save up to 9 lives with donations. We see the life saving stories all the time on the internet, and Subaru wanted to be part of it! It's always the season of giving, and we love to help, but blood donations especially are in short supply. Thankfully, Capital Subaru will be partnering with One Blood again to start bridging the gap in life-saving care!

Wish kid Gabriela (Gabby) is a creative, artistic, and immensely brave teenage girl from High Point, NC, who is facing a liver condition that recently required a liver transplant. A budding artist, Gabby loves to paint and considers producing art her favorite pastime. When Gabby learned that she was eligible for a wish, she instantly seized an opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream of hers: To travel to Hawaii. This courageous teen, who has been through so much, has always dreamt of visiting Hawaii ā namely, seeing and enjoying all the scenic beaches and beautiful marine life that Hawaii has to offer in-person. On Tuesday, December 5, Capital Subaru of Greensboro, along with Make-A-WishĀ® Central and Western North Carolina, hosted a *surprise* bon voyage and wish booster event for Gabby, her family, and her loved ones at their Greensboro dealership location to celebrate Gabbyās upcoming wish to go to Hawaii being granted. This event will serve as part of Subaru of Americaās annual āShare the Loveā campaign, which aims to raise more than $285 million for charity partners, including Make-A-WishĀ®. "At Capital Subaru of Greensboro, we are committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those in our community. Through our participation in the Share the Love campaign, we aim to contribute to causes that positively impact our neighbors and create lasting change," said Kelly Khatib, General Manager of Capital Subaru of Greensboro. During the Wish Booster event, Gabby was surprised with an official send-off for her upcoming Hawaii trip in January, along with a wish-granting celebration fit for an island Queen, full of gifts, surprises, and more. Wish Boosters increase the anticipation and excitement of upcoming wishes by connecting with wish kids and their families and creating meaningful touches that boost the wish journey. Representatives from Capital Subaru of Greensboro and Make-a-WishĀ® North Carolina were also in attendance to help celebrate Gabbyās wish being granted.

Every year, Capital Subaru of Greensboro gets boxes full of goodies to engage children in school. This year, we were able to provide those boxes to multiple teachers (within the Subaru family!) who teach self-contained special needs classes. The kids made the most use of, and enjoyed, the white boards. But the boxes contained white boards, markers, crayons, pencils, erasers, fidget toys, note cards, and much more! We're glad to be able to provide some materials to teachers, who are often expected to buy their own supplies, and hope they continue to enrich the lives of these special kids. #SubaruLovesLearning

Capital Subaru was lucky enough to host another event for child part of Make-A-Wish. This time, in the showroom, we made a luau as send-off for a local kid from High Point. There was a full feast, and thousands of balloons all around. Her wish is to take a dream vacation to Hawaii, and we wanted to give her a proper send-off with Make-A-Wish.

Make-A-Wish foundation works hard every single day to provide strength, hope, and hopefully transformation for kids with critical illnesses. They take great care in planning events and making memories for these awesome kids. Capital Subaru of Greensboro teamed up with a group of kids and some representatives to take them to a movie theater, and all watch the movie "Wish" together. Some pictures were taken and every snack they could want was provided for them and their families. Make-a-Wish granted over 15,000 wishes for kids in the US last year, and we're hoping that Capital Subaru could make it even more special this year.

Subaru of America is known for partnering with Meals on Wheels during the Subaru Love Promise season. However, Capital Subaru teamed up with them before that to deliver food with 4 reliable Subarus, to over 40 different homes in the triad area. Management, salespeople, and service technicians all came together and spent over 3 hours delivering food to various locations. Food insecurity is a national issue, but among seniors, Meals on Wheels serves over 2.2 million senior citizens per year, because ~50% lack the means to pay for basic necessities, such as food. With Subaru's help, we're hoping to bridge that gap, and look forward to helping more in the future.

As the cold weather and rain start to roll in during Thanksgiving week, our service department has been busy with cars, but not always Subarus. Close to the dealership, a single mother was on her way to a job interview when her car broke down. She just lost her previous job before the holiday season and obviously needed to get to the job interview. We paid for her car to be towed, and our staff brought her car into the service bays where our certified technicians took a look at it and fixed the $500 worth of damage within 3 hours, for free. She was able to reschedule her interview and drive herself there! We really hope she got the job and that her kids can enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas all together.

Triad Golden Retriever Rescue and Capital Subaru of Greensboro, NC celebrated Make a Dogs Day by having a picnic and Meet and Greet event at the dealership on Nov. 28, 2023. Subaru management pulled out all the stops in spite of management and staff recently shuffling. Everyone pulled it together to get a great banner, post on social media and draw in potential car buyers, our foster dogs, and interested adopters. The indoor Subaru Loves Pet table was stunning and the Crosstrek display was a hit. Subaru staff grill masters served hot dogs and hamburgers. We had six foster dogs there that commanded the attention of everyone. One of them was adopted directly related to that day and we gained a few new volunteers as well. We thank the dealership for their efforts to make this a successful event. It was the best Make A Dogās Day event so far in our three years collaboration!

While Capital Subaru has partnered with the Triad Golden Retriever Rescue (TGRR) in the past, this year was the best year we've ever had. 7 lovely goldies showed up ready to be adopted, 5+ other dogs showed up to make friends with them, and even kids were tumbling around with pups! We grilled out, played cornhole, drew on pumpkins, and overall had a blast with the dogs that came to visit our showroom. Several applications were put in (some for retrievers that weren't even there!) for the sweethearts that made our day special. We also gave some new pet parent kits to the foundation for when these goldies get adopted, and plenty of treat bags for our furry guests. Kits included a leash, collar, toys, collapsible accessories, and more for new owners! And for each golden retriever adopted, Subaru gives $100 to the TGRR that goes towards training, foster care, and the overall cost for taking care of these precious dogs that are looking for new homes. We look forward to working with them in the future, and hope to get every last one of the goldies adopted!

Since moving into our new building and updating our furniture to current Subaru designs, we were left with quite a bit furniture we no longer needed. Most of the furniture was in great shape, so we began searching for someone who could make use of it as a donation. At the same time, our community friend StepUp Greensboro was moving to a larger facility. The timing could not have been better! StepUp Greensboro is a local charitable organization that has a mission of motivating, equipping and empowering local individuals to become self-sufficient and stable through employment and life skills training. They have worked with hundreds of men and women since 2011. The basis for the success of their program is compassionate accountability, collaboration, and the firm belief that every person has the right to pursue a better life. We were finally able to tour their new facility on August 4th and we were amazed! With how outstanding they are as an organization, we maybe should not have been amazed at all. More than anything we are grateful to have been of service to a group who does so much for our community!

For Subaru Loves Learning 2022, we have partnered with David D. Jones elementary school. This school was recommended to us by our much loved Subaru Ambassador Kevin S. and we could not be more excited! Beyond being an English/Spanish fully immersive school, their reading, math and science scores are above state average, they have a phenomenal music program and they have gardens where their students can learn about the earth. You can really tell how much this school cares about their students. We were able to meet the faculty on August the 16th and present our classroom kits. We look forward to getting more involved!

On Tuesday, July 14th, the LLS North Carolina - Virginia Region and Capital Subaru of Greensboro had the opportunity to deliver 80 blankets, 10 arts & crafts kits, and cards of hope to Cone Health Cancer Center at Wesley Long in Greensboro as part of the Subaru Loves To Care program. From Ashley Murphy of Capital Subaru of Greensboro, "We have partnered with Cone Health since 2016. We display the blankets, art kits and information throughout our dealership in hopes of collecting as many cards of hope as possible prior to donation day." This act of generosity was warmly received by the Cone Health Cancer Center at Wesley Long who were thrilled to distribute these comforting gifts to their patients. Many thanks to everyone at Capital Subaru of Greensboro and Cone Health Cancer Center at Wesley Long, not only for a memorable day, but for supporting LLS's mission to cure blood cancers and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Capital Subaru of Greensboro and Triad Golden Retriever Rescue (TGRR) started working together right before the beginning of the pandemic. Capital Subaru sponsored our first Hearts of Gold gala and silent auction event in February of 2020. The Subaru employees were so excited to celebrate rescue Goldens and socialize with others of the same heart. With Capital Subaruās sponsorship, and lots of donated auction items, we were able to have a successful event and raise over $5,000 for TGRR. In 2020 and 2021 we were delighted to participate in the October 22nd Subaru Loves Pets/Make a Dogās Day event at Capital Subaru. Ashley Murphy and Emma Phillips helped plan and coordinate the day. They provided social media support, a space for making a few educational videos, and a display Subaru on the day of the event so visitors and volunteers could take their dog's picture in front of a cool new Subaru with fall decorations. Our dogs also loved receiving their stuffed Chewbaru Outbarks at this yearās event! In 2020 we were awarded a generous grant from ASPCA/Subaru for being involved in the Subaru Loves Pets promotion. The grant helped us provide medical care for our dogs, which is typically 75% of TGRRās costs. Since COVID, we have had increased medical costs from the dogs we take in our program due to people giving up their dogs when they are unable to afford their care. We also have had owners turning in dogs in 2021 that they bought or adopted during 2020 that were not trained or socialized due to the pandemic. We are grateful to Capital Subaru for their continued support.

On Tuesday, October 5th, we were able to visit our Subaru Loves Learning partner Bessemer Elementary. Ms. Bell Glenn and Mr. Sciandra were so accommodating and friendly! We feel so proud to be partnered with this local school and show a little thanks to their amazing teachers and administrators.

One of our amazing Subaru Ambassadors reached out with an idea on providing Comfort Cases to the Children's Home Society of North Carolina. Comfort Cases is a company that sources and fills backpacks and duffel bags with age appropriate self-care and self-worth items. These bags are geared toward helping our youth enter the foster system with dignity. The Children's Home Society is so very important to our region that we couldn't resist joining him! We are so happy to have learned about Comfort Cases and we owe a huge thanks to Kevin S. for including us.

For many years we have chosen Now What for Widows as our Share the Love local charity partner. During a year when isolating was a priority, and considering that this is a part of our community that can already feel so isolated, we appreciated the service that this group offers more than ever. While properly following CDC guidelines, we briefly met with members again to share the donation from 2020's STL Event on May 28th! This group is so gracious, but really, the pleasure is always ours.

For the 5th year in a row, we were able to sponsor the Triad LUNGe Forward 5K in November 2020. This great event is hosted by the Lung Cancer Initiative of North Carolina. They had to do it a little differently this year due to Covid-19, but we all made it work with a live stream of the run and virtual booths.

We had so much fun during this year's Make a Dog's Day. During the week of the event we were able to promote our Pet Partner, Triad Golden Retriever Rescue and some of their friends. Through TGRR we were able to make a connection with Dog Gone Fun, Tri City Canine and The ArcBarks Dog Treat Company. We hosted a social distancing block party on the 22nd with all as our guests and in front of our new facility. Through the event, and accompanying grant, we were able to help 5 special needs/elderly dogs get adopted. This year was even more rewarding than the last!

In June of 2020 Capital Subaru of Greensboro proudly awarded a local frontline healthcare worker with a New Subaru. The selection process was determined by community nomination and the winner was chosen with an online contest held from May 1st-15th. The prize was a delivery of a brand new 2020 Subaru Forester to drive for a year, at no cost to the winner. This was the way that our dealership felt they could give back to the healthcare community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our winner was Ms. Wendy Munro!

For the second year in a row, I was able to represent The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to work with the amazing Capital Subaru of Greensboro team to deliver blankets, inspirational cards and childrenās care kits to the Cone Health Cancer Center at Wesley Long. This year Ashley Murphy and Nyia Cope from Subaru joined me to meet Cone Health care providers Tim Nichols and Diane Wilson at the cancer center for this special delivery. At last yearās delivery, we were told of a patient that brings her Subaru blanket from the 2017 partnership with her to all of her appointments, which was so heartwarming to hear. How amazing was it for us to see this patient just as we were coming off the elevator with the boxes of blankets! This was a complete coincidence and made the whole experience that much more meaningful. She was indeed carrying her blanket and we were able to speak with her about how much she appreciates having it for all of her appointments. This truly is an incredible partnership and I am thankful to have been a part of the day again this year.

Thank you Capital Subaru for Supporting Now What...a network for those widowed. Now What received a $23,000 donation from Subaru's "Share the Love" Program. This donation helps us provide activity, mental assessment, and spiritual well being. Now What serves over 350 widows and widowers in Guildford County. This is the fourth consecutive year Capital Subaru has partnered with Now What in this program. Thank you Capital Subaru...we could not do what we do without you!!

This weekend, along with two of our favorite Subaru Ambassadors, Tiffany and I joined the Down Syndrome Network of Greater Greensboro for their 3.21 Dash for Down Syndrome. The Down Syndrome Network of Greater Greensboro is committed to enriching the lives of individuals with Down syndrome. The money raised specifically at the Dash will fund the DSNGGās new āDash for Your Dreamsā Scholarship, which will provide local applicants with Down syndrome monetary support to help reach their dreams of attending post-secondary school or obtaining the skills necessary to procure and maintain meaningful employment. Sponsoring this event was incredibly rewarding and so much fun!

On the morning of Monday, July 9th, I had the privilege of joining Capital Subaru of Greensboro team members Ashley Murphy, Chantel McCurdy, Bailey Miles, and Christopher Williams to deliver blankets, care cards and craft kits to Cone Health Cancer Center in Greensboro.Upon arriving, James Harris of Cone Health had arranged for local media to attend and interview both Subaru and Cone to learn more about the special significance of these deliveries of warmth and hope. What set this delivery apart from other blanket deliveries was the addition of very special "finisher medals" that the GM of Capital Subaru thoughtfully donated. These are medals that he has collected upon completion of various 5K and Triathlon events. These medals had a special note attached and will be given to the amazing and brave patients undergoing treatment at Cone Health Cancer Center.Cone Health expressed how very appreciated the Subaru blankets are to the patients and even told of one patient that brings her blanket from last year to every one of her appointments because it brings her not just warmth, but comfort, too. What an honor to play a small part in giving back in this way and I look forward to being a part of this in the future.

I arrived at Capital Subaru of Greensboro on June 29th to meet them for a blanket delivery to Cone Health Wesley Long Cancer Center in partnership with Subaru and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I was super excited when they greeted me and shared that they had a new employee, Terri Whiting, who was a childhood blood cancer survivor and that she would be making the delivery with us! Terri, myself, Ashley Murphy from Capital Subaru and one other Subaru team member joined in the delivery. We captured a few quick photos at the retailer before leaving for the hospital. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by Cone Health team members who had secured the media for the presentation of blankets. We were not able to present the blankets directly to the patients but instead we presented them to the lead oncology nurse outside at their care garden. Terri shared her story and the staff were so appreciative of the blankets. They had actually reached out earlier in the year to be sure we would be partnering with Subaru again because their patients had such a positive reaction last year! It was a great experience and we look forward to continuing this partnership in the future with Capital Subaru of Greensboro!

"Now What?" A Network for Widows, helps raise awareness that widows need help, as well as connects them to resources that can offer expertise, support, and encouragement. Capital Subaru of Greensboro has offered to partner with Now What? to provide valuable assistance in several different areas. Most widows have no idea of how to purchase and/or take care of an automobile. Generally, that has never been their responsibility. The team at Capital Subaru of Greensboro assist our widows in an honest, fair, and friendly manner that gives them comfort and peace of mind in an area they know nothing about. In addition, Capital Subaru of Greensboro provides financial support through Subaru's "Share the Love" program. This money enables Now What? to provide programs and events that helps us continue to raise awareness and support for widows. Now What? is grateful to Capital Subaru of Greensboro for their continued support of Now What? and to the widows of Greensboro.

Peeler Open Elementary School was thrilled to learn we had been picked for the Subaru Loves Learning initiative. Science is a main focus of our curriculum and we are delighted to receive numerous books from Capital Subaru of Greensboro to support the education of young children in our community. We will be using these books to enrich our students learning environment for years to come. Thank you Capital Subaru of Greensboro, your staff and customers for supporting the local schools and community.

On behalf of Capital Subaru and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, I wanted to take a minute to say thank you so very much to each and every one of you for organizing such an incredible experience today during the delivery of the blankets for patients. From the minute we walked in, it felt like we were a part of something special and we are so grateful to have the chance to have a small impact on the cancer patients being treated at Cone Health Cancer Center. We enjoyed the opportunity to meet Dr. Windham, take a tour of your state-of-the-art facility and learn more about the work you are doing with local patients and their families. It was also nice to meet Dr. Gorsuch during our visit. Please share this with them and I will also follow-up in a separate email. Thank you all again for just a wonderful day and we hope that your patients will know that they are being thought of by so many and feel the warmth that we hoped to deliver with these blankets. Thank you for your dedication in the fight against cancer.
Did Capital Subaru of Greensboro go above and beyond, provide exceptional service, or support causes that are important to you? We'd love to hear about it.
